God, is that you?
Have you ever found yourself asking, “God, is that you?” There have been times and situations where I felt something clearly was from God, but it turns out I was just comfortable in my own strength, comfort, and will. It seemed good, but it wasn’t God. It just “made sense” if you know what I mean.
Then there’s been other times where I’ve prayed God’s will and for Him to show me something, I obeyed, and then it completely took me out of my comfort zone and all self-sufficiency. It no longer “made sense” and I had to walk by faith.
I’m learning through experience and the accounts in the Bible that God isn’t going to ever call you to do something that you can do in your own strength or that makes you self-sufficient. God created us for fellowship, to depend on, and trust in Him. If it’s too big for you, it’s probably God (as long as it aligns with His word, character, and nature of course).
Romans 10:11 says “As the Scriptures tell us, ‘Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.'”
Isn’t that great news? If we trust in Him we will never be disgraced or put to shame. There are so many Bible verses about the Lord’s faithfulness. But here comes the problem. Sometimes the faithfulness of God comes wrapped in a package that we don’t like or that doesn’t meet our carnal expectations.
Recognize that if it aligns with God’s word, character, and nature, makes you look more like Christ and sanctifies you, grows the fruits of the Spirit/ denies your flesh, and makes you fully trust in and depend on God, then be encouraged that you will see His glory.
You were not meant to be self-sufficient, independent apart from God, or draw from your own strength. We all need His wisdom, His grace, and His strength. Take a look at Abraham and Sarah for example, in their old age, God promised a son. The Israelites had to depend on God to part the Red Sea to escape from the Egyptians, and for manna in the wilderness. Peter had to focus on and trust in Jesus as he walked across the water.
This isn’t always what our flesh wants to hear, but it’s necessary. We want to view opportunties and blessings from God wrapped in a comfortable box with a neat little bow- when in all reality, sometimes that package is messy and looks almost impossible.
Will you trust in the Lord today?
