Endurance and Encouragement
Romans 15:4 “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us so that through the endurance taught in the scripture and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
What was written in scruptires isn’t just for us to know. It’s for us to learn about God and to be able to walk out our faith. I recently read that wisdom comes with age, knowing that with age comes experience. How will we gain wisdom in God if we’re never in His word learning about His truths to then be encouraged to walk out these experiences of faith and obedience in which He’s calling us to? We will definitely miss out on the glory of God if we walk in fear, ignorance, and/or disobedience.
If you continue reading in Romans chapter 15, verse 5 says “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Do you notice that’s the second time in the same chapter that the words endurance and encouragement were put together in the same sentence? I did. God is very purposeful and intentional with every detail of the Bible. So, this tells me to take notice. We cannot gain encouragement or the attitude of Christ until endurance is built up in us. Where does endurance come from? Trials and testing…
James 1:2-4 NASB ” Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”
Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
